Don't wait till your 50th birthday - make sure you're well advised and know your rights.

If you have visited other sections of this site, or indeed any of the sites run by other branches of the NUT, it wouldn't surprise you to find that the information contained in this section refers to the conditions waiting for teachers who finally get out of the service. Perhaps the most frequent call for advice is made by the teacher thinking about retiring. We are happy to say that we are able to provide that advice, but we recommend that nobody makes any move without contacting the regional office on 020 8846 0600 In this section is recent campaign material, new regulations and advice.

We are always trying to update materilas and this section has undergone rapid change with completely new regulations coming in to place in 2007. If you are starting to think about retirement and your pension, whatever you do please take info from this site as a guide. Make sure that you get proper union advice by contacting us to inform you of your exact personal circumstances. Given the conditions we now work under, it is not surprising that teachers celebrate the arrival of their half-century by calling their local NUT secretary with the single question: how do I get out?

Ourselves, NASUWT and ATL may often be heard to be arguing about the size of our respective memberships. Such speculation is a waste of time - the biggest union in education is NUETERS. That is the National Union of Ex-Teachers (Early Retirement Section). If you require information at this point, please e-mail us or ring us on 7926 2497
